It all began in 2006 when a old toy shop uncle gave me a handful of elongated balloons with a pump and a black white instruction sheet. I started to make simple balloon stuff like dogs, flowers, swords... and to my amazement, i actually enjoyed making them. Even more when it brings that sweet smiles on kid's faces whenever i decide to make a fool of myself using my new-found skill.
A turning point was when i stumbled upon this website about balloon hats. www.balloonhat.com
A man by the name of addi somekh, together with a photographer friend of his went all over the world to make balloon hats for thousands of people of many races, religion, cultures... It was truly inspiring. The kind of joy he brought to the villagers in rural mongolia or working adults in downtown Manhattan, New York was immense!
I thought to myself: "Wow, what if i can gather a bunch of crazy people, teach them how to make balloon hats, throw a pump and some balloons at them and go out into the streets to bless others?"
I immediately bought his book. Studied it and within a month. I set out on a project together with some friends @ Marine Parade.
True enough, it turned out very enriching and fulfilling in the sense that the volunteers learnt alot about themselves, the community was very blessed(esp. when they found out we were doing them for free).
There is something deep and special about making balloon hats for the community. They are touched in many different ways!
In response to the potential we see in this project. The Great Balloon Experiment idea was evolved from our journey with this special social tool. A team of us are dedicated to push this experiment as far it can go! And thru the process that countless lives will be touched by our little act of kindness
Our Mission Statement:
We want to bring joy by balloon hats for the community with no strings attached. By doing so, we hope to encourage volunteerism among the youths of today and inspire creativity in them throughout the world!
